Welcome legal eagles to The Digital Jurists Blog. It’s a bit surreal to be back but I’m personally thrilled. You may remember my blogs from my early days as telecom attorney and industry columnist. Much has happened since then, both in the world of technology and the things I have experienced in law both in and out of the court. I hit a point where it was time to put the (electronic) pen down and be an active player in the space between traditional concepts of the law and Internet innovations. And yes, it was fun, fast paced, complicated and challenging to ply my legal knowledge. And yes, sometimes it was frustrating when the courts or regulators didn’t get it right or misinterpreted for convenience. It made the attorney’s toil worth it. It still does. I hate to admit it but inasmuch as that extended hiatus was necessary – so does the return to the blogspace.

In the course of my travels along the legal highway,  I have met attorneys from all walks of legal practice. Fine attorneys they are, good friends now too. Some came to me because of my practice history in digital law and communications. They had an electronic evidence dilemma or a novel aspect of their client’s business or use of the Internet that they needed a specialized opinion. Others came from across the aisle. We met head-on. Opposing counsel and government folks taking a position but trying to get it right. And then there were some that were simply like-minded and attuned to digital law and the Internet. All spread the spectrum of practice experience from freshly out to many moons ago like me. Our discussions on the law and digital law were always enlightening.

This gave me pause to return to the blogspace. I am confident there are more out there. Some with questions, some with answers, all having the desire to collaborate and get it right for their clients. I imagine my mission for this blog and further work is to build a network where attorneys and legal folks can interact and help one another on digital law be it a solo practitioner, small-sized firm, in-house counsel, government folks, or even s law student inspired to tackle the clients, cases, and cutting-edge issues of digital law that our everyday world depends upon.

In the upcoming posts, expect to find a blend of digital law news, commentary, tips, case studies, new law or rule changes, and reader driven legal discussion on novel questions of digital law and practical scenarios. One thing I have learned over my own practice law is that no one attorney alone knows it all. It’s the practice of law, not perfection. We learn from one another and do more when we connect. Submit your digital law questions when you feel there is an area that needs coverage or focus. I look forward to your active participation, and your insights as well. And remember, we can agree to disagree but still expand our skillsets through the process.

The site is still under its maintenance run after being mothballed in the virtual harbor for a bit. I have invited knowledgeable and skilled digital jurists to contribute and comment on areas they may see as meaningful to other attorneys and legal folks. Be patient as the crew gets organized and the blog evolves its content. We intend to make it fun, insightful and relevant. That said, I look forward to connecting and re-connecting with you all on The Digital Jurists Blog.
